Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was a reknowned scientist and engineer in India who also once became the President of India. He was an aerospace scientist by profession has wrote many books. He is one of the most popular science icon in India. The contributions of Abdul Kalam to warfare technology of India gained him the nickname "The MIssile Man of India".

His contribution to making India one of the pioneers in space research and technology is not small.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was Kalam's full name. He hailed from a poor family in Rameshwaram, a place in southern India that politically belongs to Indian state Tamil Nadu. He has recieved Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna awards, which are the highest awards given by the Government of India to civilian personalities as a recognition of their contribution to the nation. It was on October 15, 1931 that APJ Abdul Kalam was born.

APJ Abdul Kalam was the eleventh President of India. He became the President of India in the year 2002 and completed his term in 2007. Dr. APJ Abdu Kalam died of cardiac arrest on July 25,2015 in Shillong, while he was giving a lecture for the students of IIM Shillong. The technological university of Kerala changed its name from Kerala Technological University to APJ Abdul kalam Technological University as an act of honoring Kalam's great contibutions to the nation.

After the death of Kalam 

Dr. Kalam lead a very simple life. He was an extremely hard working and a down-to-earth person. In September 2017, the governor of Puducherry shared an image of worn-out chappals, one of the belongings of Kalam in her twitter to show how simply Kalam lived.
